running around....or scooting in my dreams....
I've been running around after this diabetes problem. SubhanAllah. I had a delay in things because of a mix up at the lab. The DR had written for the lab to give me a glucose tolerance curve and on the other side of the paper, he had written that my cholesterol and trigylcerides didn't look good. So as I'm asking about this G T C test....the kid behind the counter doesn't understand me. So I read the name again, and explain in short, the details of this test. The kid flips the paper and says....OH...Cholesterol and triglycerides? Ummmm.....NO. Glucose Tolerance Curve......and then he says to me...ok, ok. I go inside they take a blood sample and tell me that's done. I'm confused, but go with it anyways. I bring the results to the DR that night.....and on the way there, I'm looking at this paper in the car.....it says....Cholesterol 235.....and I'm like....WTH?
So when we get to the DR, he's upset. Wrong test. He needs the GTC yesterday. He's worried. JEEZ! How do you guys think I feel? I wanna go back to the lab and wring that little kids NECK! And I have to fast again. Holy CRUD! So we go back the next day, talk to the lab technician, not the turd behind the counter. He explains the procedure of the test in detail. He knows what I want......so we start again. And I have to sit at the lab for 4 hours. Drink that yucky water......it's better than Canada tho. In Canada, they had given me this poor substitute for Tang, that tastes like baby aspirin & throw up. LOL! Here in Egypt, they make it simple....they just mix 100 g of sugar into a cup of water. Sweet as heck, but it goes down and stays there.
What can u do for 4 hours in a lab? Well, I brought with me the book 40 hadith. I'm a fast reader....so I finished it in less than 40 mins, and I was reading ALL OF IT. I was contemplating tackling the arabic side, to waste time. Didn't get too far and fell asleep sitting up in the chair. Thank God I don't snore!! LOL!! Anyways, I woke up barely 10 mins after falling asleep and it was time for needle number 2. Oh ya.....1 needle every hour for 4 hours, and a urine sample. So I go for needle # 2.....and after the techie takes the blood, he wants to put a bandaid....and I say...NO WAY! I ain't putting on 4 bandaids only to rip them of 55 mins later. No thank you! So he gives me the bandaid and I stick it in my purse....LOL! I go and make urine sample # 2.......Hmmmmmmm. I don't know if I can offer a couple more of these. LOL! And then I find out......the water is cut off there. HAHA! I have to pee 4 times in 4 hours, and I have no way to replenish my "stock" and am not allowed to leave the lab to buy water. JEEZ! So I call hubby.....and tell him, bring me water. (He arrives 5 mins before needle #4 and leaves the water in the car.....and I'm like....HOW THE HECK AM I GONNA PEE THIS TIME?) I manage a bit....enough really. And that was the end of my glucose tolerance curve. 5 needles and 5 urine samples after 4 hours of sitting in a chair. (with wheels on the bottom....I had visions of me pushing myself around the entire lab and sliding on that chair......6 mos pregnant and gone whacky after needle # 4. Talk about BORED~! HO HUM!!!
I have much to write....but have been consumed by many issues, side issues and just life in general. It suffices to say that I still find joy in my life....Allah has given me 4 precious children and a darling little baby that is still growing in my tummy. Day by day, this baby is making me aware of his presence.....and it's with comfort that I put my hand on my tummy.....alhamdulillah.
Tonight I go back to the DR with the test results......I'm sure I'll have much to write later, insha Allah......
