Smells that comfort me.....

What is it about a smell? Certain smells evoke certain feelings in me.....and right now I want to focus on smells that comfort me...... Some of them are linked to my childhood....and others are just linked to me in the wonders of life.......

Here are the smells:

* fresh lilacs (especially purple ones)
...as a child the bldg beside ours had an entire hedge surrounding it of purple lilacs. I used to bring them home to Mom. They always made her happy. (until I told her what I did....LOLOL)

*fresh baked banana bread
....another Mom thing....

*the smell of protex soap
....pure me this time...I love this soap

*fresh baked apple pie
....Mom....

*Green Apple incense
....I love the smell of incense in the home....

*Yasmine flowers at Maghrib time (that's when they seem to release their scent)
....this is new to me, but completely intoxicating. I've got some planted at the villa. Here in Egypt they sell necklaces of the flowers, like hawaain lays....(sp.)....hubby used to buy them for me when we were in downtown.....it brings back happy times....

*Ciara perfume by Revlon
....my favourite.....the smell of it is very much who I am.....musky, sexy, alluring and heady. A smell that makes you want to wear dark glasses at night.....

*Ariel laundry soap
....prolly the strongest smell in all of Egypt....I swear I can smell it the minute I step off the plane....

*Johnson's baby shampoo
....how can you smell this and NOT be happy?

*fresh baked bread
....this is like a free endorphin ticket for me...

*green smell
....like fresh cut grass or perhaps the smell before it is going to rain....it just smells green...

*pine needles
....so much walking as a child in the pine forest.....it was where I found solitude and sanctitude, where I explored the deepest parts of me....

*sweet grass
....my native indian roots....Mom burned so much of this.....it was a time when she would get in touch with herself and pray....the smell basically says to me...."I am searching for something greater than I ever imagined....."

*pool chlorine
....my love of swimming...passed on to my girls....a family of fish, that's us....it means summer time....

*leather
....maybe because as a child I played so much baseball? My glove always had this smell of hot leather....it makes me remember how confident of a player I was....

*mango
....what is it about the smell of mango that makes you instantly crave it? I could eat a ton of mango's and still want more......I never ate a mango until I was about 26yrs old!!

*early A.M. coffee
....it's the best way to start your day......it says "wake up" to me more than an alarm clock ever has.....

*burning wood
....so many campfires, so many campouts......the wood fire is deeply based in my childhood. At our cottage its what we did after the sun went down. Sat around the fire and just relaxed....life never was simpler.....

*aussie sprunch hair spray
....I don't know what it is about this....but I love it! I used to use it when I was 16.......and the smell still attracts me.....

*pancakes
....when I make pancakes in my house, my kids get an adrenalin boost....it's like pancakes soothe us all and say..."everything is going to be just fine....."
