Asalamalaykom,

Take it easy these next days because you've gone through A LOT. As my mother would say, "Your adrenals are shot!" Your body has been going through "fight or flight" for weeks now. Relax as much as you can into this new time, enshahallah.

Alhamdulillah, you all made it home safely. Safa I do truly LUV U. Please remember the power of Dua and know for a fact that Allah can do anything. Ask for exactly what you want with the faith that Allah will hear and answer your dua. Cry to Allah when everyone is resting comforting in their beds. Allah hears, I know this for a fact. You are constantly in my dua.
Your sister in islam, Sakinah

Safa,

May I suggest something to you?

Have you been to college? If you haven’t finished your education, it would be a good idea to do it now. I know you like to read, you’ve said so yourself, and I assume you like to write too. So studying even when you are in your thirties should not be tough. You could approach the American University of Cairo.

I have raised children, written books, given lectures, and completed four university degrees – all at the same time. I’m sure now that your children are older you will have plenty of time and support from them to study.

Education never goes waste. While it is important to study Islam it is “also” important to study other subjects and secure a university degree. Today your future is dependant on your husband (of course after Allah), and you worry about him cutting off your finances and he definitely plays that card. But if you finish school, I do think, things would be different. For one, your husband will respect you more. Trust me, he will.

Comentator makes an interesting point about education. I don't know what, if any area, is interesting to you Safa, but AUC has fellowship programmes for MA TESOL. That means you teach some of their ESL courses and do your own MA coursework, and you don't have to pay for the degree. If you were interested in teaching, it could set you up for a great career if/when you decide you'd like to work outside the home.
