First time for everything..........
Well, I finally went to the Canadian Embassy yesterday to go pick up our passports. I went there driving for the first time. I only took a couple of wrong turns......including getting off the bridge at the wrong cut off.........but I made it there!! YAY!! Driving in Egypt is such an adventure! I took my oldest daughter with me, she's 14. We parked in the parking garage quite close to the embassy, and then walked over......got the passports........not bad, eh?
At the Canadian Embassy they have started some new changes. When you go up the stairs towards the front door, they come running out and ask if they can help you.....you tell them why you are there and then they ask you to open ur purse, check it and then decide if they are going to let you in or not. Once inside, they take your cell phone from you, put your purse thru an xray machine, make you walk thru one of those metal detectors and if it buzzes, they get the wand out and check you with that, too. After all that, they give you a visitors pass, which you have to hang around your neck, and then you just sit there and wait. Quite extensive, don't ya think?
So afterwards I took my daughter to lunch at Hardee's, a short walk away, and then decided to go to the Khan al Khalili market.....we took a taxi and spent a couple of hours there. My daughter bought some fire crackers.....lolol......and I bought wax. No kidding. And candle wicks, too! Here's the reason: I bought these candles 2 years ago.....huge square ones and I like putting on candles at night in my room, rather than nightlights.......and the candles finally burnt down to the bottom......but it's just a hollow hole in the middle of the huge square......and I felt bad to throw out all that perfectly good wax. So I bought a cheap pot at the dollar store here, (2.50 LE!) and some clay bowls...........went home, cut up all the old candles.......added some extra new wax....melted them in the pot and then poured them in the clay bowls and put in the wicks. TAA DAA!!!! And you know what? I feel really thrifty and good for doing that. I bought those 3 big square candles for $13 LE each........and by adding another $20 LE I've got myself 7 new candles. Not bad!
Anyhoo..............that's about all for now............

That is very crafty. I wouldn't even had thought about making the old into new candles.
