awkward.......

The kids came home early today....what a surprise...it wasn't even 4 pm yet.

Then the strangest thing happened....as my 15 yr old walked in, she walked right into my arms and burst into tears. Claiming that she was feeling really really rotten. I promised her that we'd go to the DR tomorrow and I also made sure that she had been taking her meds. She went upstairs saying that she was going to bed.

Then suddenly, she was screaming from the top of the stairs....MAMA! MAMA! I CAN"T BREATHE!

I ran those stairs so fast and got up there.....she was grabbing the railings and almost flat on the floor....hyperventilating and breathing so fast. Almost choking on deep breaths. I had to get her to focus on me and regulate her breathing.....it took her a good 15 mins to get herself into control and then I got her into bed.

It seemed like a huge panic/anxiety attack.

Then the oldest called, she was with her father, going to his house just till tomorrow.....she wanted to talk to her sister, having forgotten to tell her something. So I spilled about what just happened in the house. She told her Father and then told me that they were coming back to see her.

I was a little stunned......was he going to come into my house and upstairs as well? Errrmmmm. But for the sickness of a child, it can be done. So back they came.......the oldest brought the ex upstairs into the 15 yr olds room. MM sat in the car.

But you know me.....after about 10 mins, I went outside and knocked on MM's window.....I told her that if she wanted to come in and see the 15 yr old she could. So she came in as well and up to my 15 yr olds room.

I went up a couple of times.......and then sent up juice for them. It was strange and awkward having them in my house. After about maybe an hour, they both left......no one said anything to me....not goodbye or thanks or anything. (which I think shows absolutely no diplomacy)

Tomorrow I'll take the 15 yr old back to the DR and see how she's doing. I do wonder if the panic attack wasn't brought on by the stresses of the weekend and perhaps her father.

So does anyone have advice about the attack?

It sounds to me that panic attack has a lot to do with her dad, sounds like it. I feel so bad for her. And how rude they didn't even say thanks.

or even some sort of acknowledgement, you know? Perhaps even just goodbye as they walked out the door.

It probably is a panic attack. Maybe he was trying to guilt her into staying an extra night, too, and she didn't feel well enough.

Def. get her rechecked but maybe she needs to have some counciling too? That may help them all deal with what that man is trying to do to them.

because of work stress i had my first panick attack a couple months ago...my therapyst gave me really good advice on instant relief for it: remember to exhale! during panick attacks we tend to inhale quickly and deeply and not exhale because it feels like we're gasping for air, but actually we're gasping with full lungs. so exhaling calms one down.
