update.....
What an interesting day the girls and I had yesterday......we went to Carrefour's! After those girls bugging and bugging and bugging me to take them out.....I finally got up and did it. It's been sort of hard for me to make this commitment to take them all out....it's hard being a mother to four kids without the father around. I'm used to it by now...for sure...but when you aren't really in the mood for a good time out, it's difficult to commit to it.
So the kids have been bugging me about buying a microwave....a big ticket item in Egypt...I sure wish it only cost about $100 LE.....but it's more like $1000 LE and more. So finally, I had the money for it.....worked like HECK getting that awful kitchen to look welcoming to a new appliance.....and we went out. I bought them dinner there....they all ate chinese food...but not me...NO WAY! I'm a Hardee's girl thru and thru....I had a mega mushroom, which I always choose. Afterwards, I bought the two little ones some time over at this place called Magic Planet....a Chuckee Cheese sort of operation. Walked over to Carrefours and picked out my microwave.
I had really wanted to get a stainless steel one, because when I move into the villa, (insha Allah, ya RAB!)...I want to buy all stainless steel appliances.....but the stainless ones just weren't up to scratch. So I ended up going for a white one. That's okay. I bought some other minor things that I can only get at a place like carrefours. Namely...VIM!....Go figure tho. In Egypt.....it's called Cif....used to be called Jif....same bottle as Vim...same smell, same everything....but called Cif. I just love this cleaner....and have to have it on hand. So I got myself a bottle of it and a bottle of my favourite fabric softener called 1. Ya....funny....it's a brand made by the Hyper 1 stores. I like it better than downey, and it's cheaper to boot. So I got my cleaners and smellers...and headed over to fresh foods.
Now Carrefours is so costly in this dept....it's like....OMG....u don't buy any veggies there....too much money. I was happy to see chestnuts at the very affordable price of $14 LE a KG. I paid $20 not too long ago. But I also had to eat the entire KG cuz no one in the house liked them....so wasn't too keen on getting myself anymore. No thanks...I'm good! But I did see Brussel sprouts....OH MY YUM!......got myself some of those....not to be had in my city....a little costly....but worth it.....I bet my kids will hate it!! HAHAHAHA!!! I also found Akkawi cheese....I've eaten that a couple of times in Canada...and really like the taste and texture of it....so got myself some....haven't let the kids try it yet.
One of the horrible things about Carrefours is their darn buggies. They don't push straight....they sort of push on an angle and you have to make up for the overkill. It always feels like you are doing a two step, left foot dance trying to make the cart go straight. By the end of our time there, I sorta got PO'd and yelled at my daughter to PUSH THE STUPID BUGGY CUZ THAT"S IT!!! LOL. A coffee at Cilantro calmed me down. Oh yes....an affordable coffee at Cilantro, I mean. 2 coffee's = $20 LE. Not the $60 LE that I got rooked into last time.
My daugher brought the laptop with her. The oldest daughter. At Cilantro it's a wireless area....and many of the university kids can always be seen there doing their work while sipping coffee. Only for the priveledged tho....considering the cost of coffee there. So she's been dying to sip a coffee and use the laptop. She had her chance yesterday...and U KNOW she enjoyed it. LOL!
We had an uneventful drive home...oh...unless you count the fact that the car was low on oil, and I had to pull into a gas station and get it checked....got 2 L poured in......but I still need to get some more.
Now here's something funny.....we get home....and pregnant me, isn't going to carry the microwave upstairs. So my daughter goes in the bldg and see's if her strong cousin is home....he is....so he comes down to carry the microwave....and he says to me....You cant carry this? It's not so heavy. To which I say to him....well, being pregnant and all, I didn't think it was a good idea to carry it. He stops and looks at me....looks at my stomach...back at me....and then says...what did you say? So I says...don't u know I'm pregnant? And he's shocked...Mish mumkin? Bi gad? HAHAHAHA! And I'm like...I'm starting the 5th month now. LOLOL...the look on his face was priceless....and then he says....I don't live on earth or what? So he carries up the microwave and before he leaves he tells me....Mabrook mitAkher...late congratulations. He's a sweety....I love him. (he's 17 now! OMG!!)
So anyways...that was my nice, relaxing day. I came home so tired and wanted to just FALL into the floor! (I dont sleep in bed, remember?)
~~~~~~
So here's the weirdo dream that I had last night. I dreamt that my hubby's oldest brother came to visit us when my hubby had arrived in Egypt. Now he's one of the major ones who is against us right now. Well, he came and talked with my hubby....I went in the kitchen planning to make this great lemonade that has some milk powder in it....it's really good.. But mistakenly, I put cocoa powder instead of milk and ended up serving it anyways. It tasted like liquid poo and I was surprised and offered to make something else, which BIL refused. As BIL got up to leave he asked me where the girls were...sleeping, I said. So as he was about to go out the door, Hubby following behind....saying pleasantries...come back soon, we miss you...blah blah.....well the BIL turns and has money in his hand and says...give this to the girls in Eid....and I go forward to accept it from him....but he throws it on the ground instead of giving it in my hand. I'm a little surprised....but my hubby is super quick and holds out his hand to his brother with money in it as well....give this to ur kids in Eid as well.....my BIL looks at hubby, and then turns around and walks out, slamming the door behind him. End of dream.
This dream haunted all my other dreams last night....I was in the middle of dreaming of eating an apple...and suddenly, my BIL walks in and throws the money on the floor again...?? I'm about to go horsebackriding...and there's my BIL....throwing the money on the floor....it's like I dreamt that specific part over and over again. I don't know what it means...but I'd love to hear your take on this. So go ahead and dream decipher my lovelies......what do you see?
Ok, having a deja vu moment here. Didn't you already post about your BIL throwing money in a dream before?? Or I could be crazy... well, am crazy but still...
Ok, OCD me now must re-read your entire blog to find out if I'm really that crazy.
And enjoy the new nuker!
salam alaikoum
ok that cleaner is still called cif in france, are you talking about the blue cleaner with the little baking soda chips in it? That is not sold in Switzerland and I get people to buy it from me in France. There is also the cif scrubbing fluid (like comet in the US but lemon scented) that I use but you can get that here.
salam again
my husband kept interrupting me so I hit the send button too soon, so yeah, dreams. Every time I have a flippy dream (and I have had some crazy ones lately, like being married to random people) my MIL is always like "if it is a bad dream it is from shaytan and if it bothers you don't listen to it", so I am gonna say like her. Only remember the good dreams :)
2:47 AM
Are you serious, Rain? I honestly don't remember at the moment...but think I'll be searching my blog for it as well....hmmmmmm.
CNCZ - I'm talking about the scrubbing fluid, lemon scented. I've never seen the blue one.....we've got a green bottle and a yellow bottle of the Cif....one of them has added bleach. I just love that stuff. Ya, I know the whole shaytan thingy.....u know what tho? On the channel called An-Nass they have dream interpretation 3 times a week....it's quite interesting. I like watching and have called occasionally, but never manage to get thru. I wouldn't call about this dream, cuz it was just lame....lame, but disturbing.
3:36 AM
Oops...now look who hit send? BTW...it shows you as being from Switzerland, Stockholm, Stockholms Lan.....u asked me that before, didnt' you?
3:40 AM
salam again
i did ask you that before
I too have the yellow bottle of Cif, I LOVE it, the yellow is the one with bleach, right? green without?
Stockholms, now that is just weird. I am at home and from home it always says Zurich even tho i don't live there.
4:10 AM
Yup, I have the yellow one....I think it is the one with bleach.....HAHA...we are both here at the same time!!
Funny about the stockholms thingy....ahh well....maybe you are more internet savvy than you realize....
OMG....I gotta go clean something!! See ya!
Glad you all had a nice day. I love Carrefour, but I always manage to get a cart with a bum wheel too. Have you ever been to that mall "city stars" I heard it's huge and has a supermarket called "spinneys" I also heard it's tres $$, but my brother has "spinney's" in the UAE and says they have rockin muffins. But I digress, I am fascinated by dreams, that's a really interesting one. I think sometimes they can mean alot (throwing the money) and sometimes be totally random (cocoa powder lemonade).
4:20 AM
Mabrook on the nuke machine, Safa! I don't know what I would do without mine -- hubby thinks it's the best thing in the kitchen second only to the tea kettle, LOL!
6:31 AM
I think all of Carrefour's carts have bum wheels! I've been to City Stars quite a few times. Remember my post about them checking for bombs under my car? The entire mall is sooo expensive...and to be honest, I don't think many ppl actually shop there. You don't see anyone walking around with tons of bags in their hands, u know? Spinneys is pretty interesting....its pretty much the same price bracket as Carrefour. You know which superstore I liked the best tho? Hyper 1.....it's almost in 6th of October....they've got their own brand name items called 1....it's all first class stuff, with low class prices.
Love that cocoa powder lemonade, do you?
Al Maraya....tks on the mabrook.....my kettle is right beside the microwave actually...LOL....
9:01 AM
Oh right, the bottom of the car check! Yea I heard that too, people (mostly shabab) hang out there but hardly shop. We actually got our microwave at carrefour a few years ago, "Galanz" its called. Now I want to go to Hyper 1. Cairo is so cool.
I would say the money for Eid represents obligation. Your BIL is obliged to help you, but you sense resentment from him. Every interaction between he and you seems to be done because he has to, and he doesn't do much to hide that(wasn't he the one who invited you to the wedding/engagement party in that weird way?). Does this sound close? Did you eat something weird before you went to bed? The cheese, perhaps?
Asalamalaykom My Sweet Sis,
Giving money is an honoring of a person. Throwing it on the floor? Well, that means, I'll only give to you, if you lower yourself to take it. Your position is the mother of the kids now. That BIL doesn't see you as the wife. He sees the kids and then gives the honor, but you must lower yourself to get that show of "kindness". Your husband doesn't get fazed one bit of the lack of respect from his bro, but instead, goes about the normalcies of Arab life. You watch all of it, like an observer.
So...
This isn't the way things are or will be. This is how you feel. Your brain is sorting through the thoughts. And you are trying to be nice, but truly you want the mean people to drink poo water. They do too! There's hidden agendas all over the place. You perhaps wish for simplicity, when you can just drink lemonade together, just give each other gifts and shows of affection, just have your husband defend your honor.
But, you ride away on a horse, right? You eat an apple? You get away from all of it and do for yourself. No one is going to do it but you.
I'd advise you to think what ways you are: currently giving too much to those who don't deserve it, and lowering yourself too much to his family and allowing your husband to direspect you too much. Those are the things that are most upsetting you.
10:55 AM
but u gotta admit.....that the lemon poo water was a stretch, eh? I don't know how I come up with them.....
