Rat free sleep.....Yippee!!!

Oh my goodness....I actually slept the entire night...(well until Fajr...)....without the sound of the popcorn-crunching rat. He's gone!! Woohoo! I was worried that he'd have some other way to enter the house, but naaawwww, I sealed up all his secret places.

***************************

My kids have started a new thing.......where we wake up for suhoor, and I make everyone breakfast....they clean off the table.....and we all go back to sleep. Usually, I wake them up again at 7am to get ready for school, and I sit around while they get theirselves together and leave. But lately....I've just been so dead....that I just have enough energy in me to tell them.....wake up guys!!! While I'm still lying in bed....LOLOL!! I know, I'm horrible...but I am sooooo tired!! So lately, they've been getting up, getting ready, even brushing the 9 yr olds hair...then coming and giving me a kiss before they leave. (while I am still sleeping) Sometimes I feel the kiss, sometimes I don't. After Ramadan that sure is gonna change cuz I'll have to make lunches! (Maybe I could make them the night before?) When I was in grade 6, I always got ready by myself. So I don't know why I'm so surprised about them doing it? But it's all good, too.

****************************

Now I've got this total addiction to those yoghurt drinks. OMG! I drank a whole litre of Pina Colada zabadoo all by myself. HOLY YUMARONI!! Then my 3 yr old gave me a sip of her little strawberry zabadoo.....and I couldn't help myself....I took a sip. Good way to be getting more milk. I only wish there were bagels here....I could so see me having a bagel with cream cheese, sprouts and sliced tomatoes and a zabadoo beside it. What? Craving coming on!! LOL!! Gonna get me a bagel recipe! Thing is about bagels....they are tricky to make....after you make the dough ur supposed to boil it or something.....I just remember it was a lot to do.

*****************************

OMG! Eid is around the corner....no really. I gotta get a move on things here!! Does anyone here make termis in Eid? (lupini beans) We make termis and hummus. It's a staple. Some people even grow sprouts....although I have no idea how to start that one. Something about helba seeds and a piece of cotton. But it is definately an Eid tradition here.....I mean...it's not all about kahk and petit fours. This year, since hubby isn't coming...I'm not going to make kahk. I'm just gonna buy 2 kgs ready made. What's the point of making them? I'll prolly make petit fours tho....cuz me and the girls make it all together and share in the deorating and stuff. We've got it down to an art.

*****************************

So we are going to Cairo again tomorrow. Huge family iftar......seems like some family members are trying to back out of it.....go figure. Well, I plan to have a good time, no matter what. We are going eid shopping afterwards....so that should be fun. Me and 4 kids...all yelling...OOOHHHH I LIKE THIS, MAMA!!

*****************************

Comment moderation going well......Oh I'm sorry those of you whose comments I've rejected. Ur stories are just getting old. I took the good and I threw out the rest.......so now you can go bug someone else......

Salam alaikoum
Once my blog troll kept posting like five messages because he couldn't understand why his messages (very nasty, very rude, very outing my personal information) were not posting. He thought I had banned the IP, so he kept getting his friends to send messages, sometimes the same message, thinking that they would eventually show up...never mind I had like three posts where I said, "Comment moderation is ON"...lol. Now his wife just sends from her IP these fake sweet messages about poor pitiful her. I put one up because I felt sorry for her, it is Ramadan... Keep the good and throw out the bad...so true Safa, so true...

Salam, Oh what I would do for a toasted bagel!
I didn't know about the termis and hummos being for eid, but I love both and always mean to make a bunch for us to snack on, but procrastination gets the best of me.

yeah, me too! The termis I always start it on the 27th of Ramadan. Boil it for a bit and then leave it on the stove....twice a day you change the water in it, and by Eid...it'll be done. That's when you add the salt. The hummus is much easier, cuz it isn't bitter. It's always been a tradition here in my hubby's family.

Ohhh, Safa, could I beg you for your kahk recipie? I try to make it every year and DH says, "It's good, but it's not like Egyptian kahk." I can only assume that yours has to be close to what he knows (he is from the Cairo area).

I've made the icy pops......and then I dipped them in melted chocolate and rolled them in nuts and once in coconut, too. They are so yummy!!!

I could post a good kahk recipe.....but there is one ingredient that is instrumental in Egyptian Kahk that I don't know if you can get there.....it's called Ruh al Kahk....which means....essence of kahk. Oh yeah, and essence of banana too. 2 must haves to make egyptian kahk. When I lived in Canada, after a visit to Egypt, I used to bring a good size supply of both.....do you have this? Let me know...then recipe will follow! Maybe even with pics!!
