You can feel it in the air....

This morning started with me waking up early.....at 8 am actually....(did I even get a chance to sleep?) I went to the Friday's Farmer's Market....(if my apostrophes are in the wrong spot....well....forgive me, k??)

The mood over there is usually tense, busy and the occasional argument here and there. Sometimes the arguments are loud and include just about anyone who is standing within hearing distance.....

But today....it wasn't like that at all. It was calm. I heard ppl walking reciting quran while they were looking around. I heard one man singing an islamic song under his breath....many ppl are walking carrying a tasbih in their hands. Masha Allah...the mood was good!

As much as Egypt becomes religious during the holy month of Ramadan....it also becomes consumed with cooking and sweets. Which was obvious by the amount of people at the market. Add to that, the fact that the prices always increase during Ramadan.....here are some examples....

-cucumbers went up from $1LE/kg to $2.50

-chicken breasts from $22LE/kg to $26

-head of cabbage $2.50 for a HUGE one....to $3 for a teeny tiny one....

Every Ramadan cucumbers always increase considerably in price.....I was expecting this. The demand is just so great.

So I bought a fridge full of fresh produce....and just have a little bit of running around to do today....school starts on Sunday, insha Allah. Hey....no lunches! WOOHOO!

I watched part of the Taraweeh prayers in Mecca....(did anyone use my link?)....and masha Allah.....it makes you wish to be there.

Please everyone go check out THIS blog...masha Allah!! You need to be reading this.....

Ramadan mubarak if I did not say it before! Isn't this a good Ramadan? Even when they jack up prices (and they do here too) I just look at it as part of the fun. Although here it is more on finished products (Algerian bread and pastries) Also I tell myself that these jacked up prices are benefitting the women who make them.
However jacked up produce is kinda wrong but whatevs.
