tidbits and tads....
I did something different with dinner today. I used the leftover boiled meat and broth from yesterday, and decided to make green beans in red sauce. But I don't have green beans. What I do have is something called "fuul nabed". It's like a green bean, but much bigger.....in fact, it's like the fuul you may eat for breakfast, but this is it when it's still green and fresh. When these come into season, I usually buy a ton of them, shell them and freeze. I add the beans to soup and sometimes to stirfrys......I liken it to lima beans. So what I did with the HUGE green fuul nabed, was cut it up like the green beans, made the red sauce and added it. I just took a taste and its delicious. Do you do that, Mona? Anyways...that's what I did different.
Yesterdays dinner was uneventful, but I made fried little eggplants stuffed with garlic and spices. The eggplant was so yummy......I didn't use to make this often in Canada because the price of those little eggplant was so costly. But here, it's pennies. So cheap. Actually, there are many things that I didn't make there because of price.
Tomorrow is Fridays market. I don't think I'm going. I have a pretty well stocked fridge, and what I need to get is bread, actually. And eggs. Hmmmmm.....and mayonnaise. LOL!

My laundry is piled up again. Oh woe is me! What is it with me and the laundry? I swear I'm gonna start a clothes burning party! I'm seriously thinking about it. I really need to get on top of it now, and keep it that way....at the same time, I want to look thru the existing baby clothes that I have leftover from the almost 4 yr old. See what I need to get, pull out the crib and clean it up. I do have things to get a move on. But where the heck is the motivation? Maybe I'm waiting for March 1st? There's something about the first of the month that makes me happy.
Prolly cuz that's when I take some moolah in my hands.

Can you believe that my downstairs SIL is still not really talking to me? OMG....I think I have to buy her a car to shut her up!! LOL!! Sometimes I wonder if I was egyptian, would I look at this differently? Maybe because I still have some cdn floating around in me, I just look at this new form of stupid and am in awe.

I had a great phone call with a canadian friend who lives here in Egypt. Hope she doesn't mind me saying that. I've never met her, but she's also in a P-Marriage. Enough said. LOL! But do you know how great it is to talk to someone that you can relate to? That has an accent that sounds like yours? That you can say....I think Colin Mauchery is a great asset to Cda.....and laugh about it....and she actually KNOWS who ur talking about and even agrees with u? (well, I didn't say that...LOL!!!) Anyways....it's great to talk to another cdn, to laugh with them, bitch a bit and hang up and feel good. LOL! So thanks for that!

Today is Thursday.....our weekend here is Fri and Sat. So I don't know what we are doing....prolly lots of nothing....ho hum! But guess what? My 11 yr old is having her bday on Sat......so we'll just be doing a little family dinner....just me and the girls.....on the diningroom table, fancy dishes....LOL! It's what she wants....oh ya....for dinner she wants a leg of lamb, mashed potatoes, gravy and sauteed zuchinni. YA! I actually have a small leg of lamb in the freezer left from our Eid Lamb. So she's getting her wish!!

It was my pleasure - as it made me feel good - really does help to talk to a fellow canuck - always nice to talk with someone who truly 'understands' the language - lol. You take care - one of these 'days' - once I have wheels - I will make my way to your part of Egypt and visit you - then watch out.

Safa,I luv u as my sis in islam so let me say this why dont you teach your kids not to celebrate b-days while they are still young? You have that responsibility to teaching them Islam in the right way inshallah.Take this opportunity to do so sis.

Actually, anon....we've never celebrated a bday in our house. Unless of course, u count the meal. On the kids bday, I always make them a dinner per their requests, and we discuss their birth....etc etc. But no cake, candles....I've always been very against that.
Strange thing is...last year, when hubby came to Egypt for his first visit after marrying MM, we were in a restaurant the day before the 11yr olds bday.....and he got up and I thought it was to go to the bathroom. But surprise, surprise.....he got the waiters to bring a cake and sing Happy Bday.....I WAS SHOCKED....like I said...we don't do that.
I don't know what it was that made him do that? The pressure of us all being upset with him? Wanting to please her? This visit....for the first time in all our 16 yrs of marriage.....he played cards with the girls. I never got the chance to bring it up to him....but it's been weighing on my mind.....his weakness....subhanAllah....

I'm going to go ahead and assume you meant me. :) I have never had the green fool beans cooked. E gets them and he and the kids eat them raw, like a snack. I don't care for them that way, but I will have to try cooking them. There are green beans here though, do you mean string beans? Eggplant sounds delish!
I'm with you on the laundry procrastination. I'm back to an overflowing hamper again.
5:17 PM
I did mean u!! Yes, you know the ones I mean...it's those that they eat raw.....I personally don't like them too much raw. I could eat a handful and that's it. But you should try adding the beans to soup....it's amazing! I really like them like that! And when I took the beans and cut them up like little green beans and made them in that red sauce......it was amazing. You gotta try it....even if u just prepare a little of it. I also take those beans and put them in feta cheese sandwiches...very yum! What you gotta do, is buy like 15 kgs of them....RIGHT NOW, cuz they are down to about $1 LE a kg....shell them all, and put them in the freezer......so you can add to soup for the rest of the year.....believe me...you'll love it!~
I'm working on laundry.....got a ton done yesterday, but I think that the rest is breeding in the hamper...!!
