Change of pace......

I took the kids to the woman's swim at the club today. It was woman's day. They put curtains up all over the fences, lock all the doors but one, the lifeguards are women and the cafeteria has only girls working...for an entire 3 hours, twice a week. It's us women's time to take off our scarves and enjoy the sun.....jump in the Olympic pool.....and swim to our hearts content. Even Niqabi's are going swimming, it is so well done.

I had a good time....I met my american friend there, and my ONE egyptian friend, both of these women I love dearly......and then a couple of other women joined us......it was nice to be part of a group. My american friend knows whats going on with me.....but no one else does. So it was nice to sit with people and not be the object of conversation, you know?

I enjoyed swimming with my 3 yr old so much.....she kept holding on to my back while I'd swim around the pool........such a little fish, she is. The other girls were all over the pool having seen their friends and making quick new ones.

I wonder if the kids felt at such peace like I did? I just enjoyed it so much....for a change.....it wasn't about me.

As-salaamu Alaykum, my younger sister and I was just talking about how bad we wanted to go swimming. It's been so long since we've been. But I'm glad you and the girls had a chance to go. It's nothing like doing things that relax us.

First time in 5 YEARS!! OMG! In Canada they had a sister's swim regularly....indoor pool, tho. Every Saturday.....so even after I converted.....I've been swimming regularly......it's just since I came to Egypt that I only get to go from June til the end of Sept.....but in an OUTDOOR POOL!!! So for all those months I miss it....oh well!! Can't wait to hear about your experience of it, Aoife......

About the QT........I've been hoarding myself in the house and shunning everyone but my internet friends........I have to crack outta my shell.......

You know Muslim Mommie....if you have a community center...and enough muslim women willing to go swimming...you'd be surprised how accomodating the center will be. How they worked it in Canada is that one of the sisters rented the pool for 1 1/2 hours....specifically requested female guards...explained the no men rule......and got individuals to pay her for the swim.......masha ALLAH......

Dear Sister,

I am glad to see you taking care of yourself through relaxing with your girls. Insha'Allah as time goes on you will find it easier and find many ways to "get away from your problems" like this.

Salaam Alaikum,

Naam Safa, as a matter of fact a sister is having something really soon at a center that she has rented out and I want to go so bad but I have to come up with the twenty dollars as well a suitable sitter for the boys. I want to go so bad I used to swim competively up until the age of 14. My grand father taught all of his granchildren beginning at the age of 4. He wanted us to get swimming scholarships to college so that we could save money, but it didn't turn out that way masha-Allah. My husband and I went on a mini vacation long before the children were thought of and I got to go swimming then but not since. And so it's been a long four years since I've been in the water. But, soon insha-Allah.

Safa, where in Egypt do you live? You mentioned that you have just the one Egyptian friend. Have you considered helping out in a nursery or school? I know you have the younger girls to be home for, but it can be a great way to meet people.
