The beat of the drum......
I wasn't raised native. My mother loved all things native.... it's who we were.....but somehow.... she was raised outside of it all. She didn't find herself until I had found Islam and then was married and then with 2 children from my 5! And even now.... I don't think she's found herself.
But that's not my point..... I was thinking about the beat of the drum. A constant in native music. Have you ever heard native singing? I remember as a child all the pow wow's I went to. I wasn't ur typical olive skinned, black haired indian girl. Naw. I have always been fair. Sigh. I was often teased at pow wow's and called whitey. Funny now that I think about it. I've always been on the outside of everything. I mean....even as a muslim woman in my own country...I'm still considered an outsider. And now that I''m in Egypt....I fit in dress wise....but I'm still a foreignor. SIGH. Where have I ever fit in?
Well....there's lots I want to say here.....but you guys know my house is busy......
So I'll just make my point about the beat of the drum. In my family....I AM that constant. And I'm happy about that.

I was also from "somewhere else" in any place. At the end, one insider to the world he creates. But the only constant is your faith.
