Was looking thru the job section of one of our newspapers.....it's in English and Arabic....it's quite surprising the things they ask for...... In Canada, you couldn't get away with some of this stuff.....here's a sample...
**Required secretary - good command of English & computer - good looking - for Engineering company -
**Executive secretary - experienced & fresh - fluent English
Interesting how they ask for someone good looking and fresh...LOL! I've seen applications where they ask you how long you've been married and how many kids you have. They also ask you to list the dates of birth of ur children.
Most companies wil require you to send your resume along with a recent picture.
Imagine that?
Anyways...I'm just surfing around....not looking for a job or anything....this just came across my plate....thought to share.....

I absolutely hate this type of thing. Too bad if you're dark or ugly. You probably won't get hired and if you do you will make less money than your fair skinned pretty co-worker. It makes me sick that this is what we are dealing with in a so-called muslim country.

Asalamlayakom Secretarial Safa,
Kinda makes you wonder what kind of ad TBD's ex answered? Hmmm?
You know, she still has her receptionist job in Egypt. Do you really think she's anxious to come to the U.S. and be a gas station cashier?

salaam safa,
I don't live in a muslem country but here in europe they do it like this. And I think it is very bad.For a simple job for my son they wanted to know which country my husband came from. They ask for age, colour, religion etc.So they reject him for his name(not dutch)no reaction,no letter,no telephone call.subhan allah.I am disapointed and angry and very
sad,for my son.

In Europe it is common to ask for pictures, and while secretaries can look however they want, they do expect receptionists to be good looking. probably because people see them. i am not saying it is right, but that is how it is here. I too feel pressure about how I dress and stuff at work...it's not just about doing the job well, sadly, you have to look the part. Something I am only middling at lol

Amazing, dictator princess...I thought w/ the EU came some more change, but Spain was the same way 8 years ago. You would have an open call for an interview(secretarial) and they would come out and say, "Everyone over 29, please go home." The ads would ask for people to be 'well-presented' and the like. I thought the EU as one force would clamp down on these practices, but I guess not. :-(
